Binaca Geetmala 1970 final

1970 was the last year in which sanity continued to be maintained, and the Binaca geetmala 1970 final list had equitable distribution of songs among many singers and music directors in the final 32.

It was just a matter of time before all hell would break loose and Binaca geetmala would become an all Kishore Kumar show during 1971.

Not just among singers and music directors, change of guard was taking place among actors too. Rajesh Khanna had become the new heart throb of the public, and old heart throbs like Dilip Kumar and Rajendra Kumar were on their way out.Similarly Hema Malini was taking over from Vyjyantimala and co.

The only oldtimer music directors who held their own and would continue to do so in the coming years were S D Burman and Shankar Jaikishan. 1970 was a year when other senior music directors found themselves getting marginalised.

In fact, with the death of Jaikishan in late 1970, even the Shankar Jaikishan musical duo would not be the same in the coming years.Naushad managed one song, but there was no place for O P Nayyar,Madan Mohan etc in Binaca geetmala 1970. It is a bit surprising really, considering that Madan Mohan came up with a national award winning performance in Dastak. But then, Binaca geetmala songs were for the masses,and not for classes, and Dastak songs did not find favour with the masses.

For the fourth year in a row, a Laxmikant Pyarelal composition emerged as the top song of the year. Overall, it was another year that saw lots of nice songs, many of them going on to become evergreen. After all, we were in the decade of 1960s that was to be regarded as the golden decade of Bollywood music.
