Binaca geetmala final countdown of 1958 had some evergreen songs as well as some songs that were subsequently forgotten. So this year's Binaca geetmala final episode could be described as a mixed bag. And this was a final that saw more than a dozen music directors managing to find places in the final countdown. This includes some music directors that have been subsequently forgotten viz N Dutta, Dattaram, Chitragupta, Vasant Desai etc. Of course, the big names like Naushad,S D Burman,Shankar Jaikishan, and emerging names like Ravi,O P Nayyar and Madan Mohan were also there.

Thanks Shalini. I think posting all these Binaca Geetmala lists would have been an overkill in CF.
Here my plan is to list our the Binaca geetmalas upto 1970s or so.
I also plan to continue writing on the legendary music directors. There are too many of them to keep me occupied for a long time.
Geetmalas maybe, but I hope you will post all the Music director write-ups on CF.

Wonderful! Some of the songs are indeed forgetable, but the others are golden.

Marvelous. Even the songs at the bottom of the ladder (paydaan), are hundred times better than the "most popular"s of today's Hindi film songs! There are some audio cassettes of the 1956, 1957, 1958 annual programmes by Ameen Sayani, wherein he had first recounted the popular songs of that particular year, and then given the top 16 songs of the year. I have one listened to one such cassette of 1956. Can somebody put those audio cassettes on these blogs.
